About the Director

Ms. Shilpi Singh is a passionate and committed campaigner for rights, resilience, rehabilitation, reformation, and resurrection of women and girls facing systemic vulnerabilities. Her journey with Bhoomika Vihar began as a child artist, grew through journalism, and matured into leadership as she took charge as Director in 2013.

She holds an MBA and leads grassroots activism against gender-based violence. She is also the State Convener of the Campaign Against Child Trafficking (CACT), mobilizing community-based organizations to safeguard children across Bihar.

Her impactful work earned her selection by the Embassy of the United States for the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in 2015. She has also received international fellowships from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and The Hague Academy for Local Governance.

In 2020, she became a finalist for the Stop Slavery Hero Award by the Thomson Reuters Foundation in London. Her leadership was also recognized under Zee Bihar Jharkhand’s “AtmaNirbhar Bihar” initiative and the Women Lead India Fellowship by Vital Voices and Reliance Foundation.

She pioneered the girl-led leadership model “Durga Jattha”—a powerful collective of adolescent girls addressing community-level challenges. Her 2003 co-authored study on fake and early marriages was cited in the UK Parliament (2008) and remains a foundational work in anti-trafficking policy discussions.

Ms. Singh’s work on preventing bridal trafficking was featured in The Hindu (2017), and she was honored as a “Secret Superstar” by Bollywood actor Mr. Aamir Khan. Beyond activism, she is also a passionate Kathak dance enthusiast and continues to inspire many through her dynamic leadership.
